Mission Statement

The National Distribution Union is a voluntary, democratic, independent collective organisation, run by working people for working people.

We are united around a common history of constant struggle with employers and their political partners, both locally and internationally. Over the years we have protected the interests of our members and achieved many improvements.

We have a common aim of achieving a strong, well-resourced organisation to further improve our working lives and to uphold our rights.

Our primary methods are organising in workplaces and political action at workplaces. We focus groups of workers on their common needs and we plan with them a range of strategies which include:

  • action on the job
  • building site organisation
  • consolidating bargaining
  • combined-union initiatives

to secure industry standards and campaign together with like minded organisations to benefit the wider community.

Our philosophy is that we are a progressive, pro-active, struggle-based Union - performing all the functions of representing, negotiating for our members within the workplaces based on the organising approach, and agitating for the economic, social and political rights of our members and their families.

Our aim is to unionise and where necessary re-unionise workers into a collective organisation to raise the political consciousness of workers.
